India has taken another step towards the digitalisation of Geographical Indications (GI) administration with the launch of the Geographical Indications (GI) e-Filing Portal on 15 September 2026, observed as GI Day.
The portal was officially launched by the Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and provides a dedicated online platform for filing GI applications, making the process more streamlined and accessible for applicants and stakeholders.
Alongside the portal, Draft Guidelines for Geographical Indications have also been published to provide greater clarity on various aspects of the GI registration process.
Stakeholder Feedback Invited
Applicants and stakeholders have been invited to share their feedback and suggestions on the GI e-Filing Portal through the designated Google Form. Comments on the Draft Guidelines may also be submitted by email at:
cgoffice.in@gov.in
llc-ipo@gov.in
The launch of the portal, together with the Draft Guidelines, marks a noteworthy development in the ongoing digitalisation of India's GI registration framework and provides stakeholders an opportunity to contribute to its further development.
